Logitech’s LifeSize Aims for Android Video Soon

Logitech’s LifeSize division expects to bring one-way video streaming to Android devices in a few months and introduce a two-way videoconferencing system to tablets and smartphones later this year.

The company’s LifeSize Video Center appliance already can stream meetings and other enterprise video to iPads and other devices based on Apple’s iOS. Developing software for Android was more complicated, partly because there are different versions of that OS, but an Android version is coming, LifeSize CEO Craig Malloy said in an interview on Tuesday. The company also is in early discussions with Research In Motion about software for BlackBerries, he said.

LifeSize hopes to capitalize on major trends in business videoconferencing, including cloud-based services and mobility, to remain competitive and deliver on growing demand from enterprises and small and medium-size businesses (SMBs), Malloy said. Though blue-chip names such as Cisco and HP have strong footholds in business video, LifeSize thinks it benefits by being owned by Logitech, a company rooted in consumer peripherals such as webcams.

Tablets, smartphones and PCs are expanding the audience for business video, leading to deployments that reach thousands of potential users in a large organization, said Eric Kintz, general manager of the recently formed Logitech for Business division. The challenge with those deployments is getting individuals to use the tools after they have been made available across the organization, something Logitech does well, he said.

To address the growing ranks of iPhone and iPad users, in February LifeSize extended its Video Center to distribute live and recorded streams such as training sessions, meetings and executive messages to devices using iOS. But the company acknowledged it was also looking at two-way participation and to other mobile platforms.

“There’s no real enterprise-class, connected, smartphone video calling,” Malloy said. “That’s going to become the new broadest part of the [video communications market], whereas today it’s PCs and notebooks.”

Last month, LifeSize welcomed mobile users and others into its Passport room-based videoconferencing system by integrating Skype into a free software update. Just a few weeks later, Microsoft said it would acquire Skype for US$8.5 billion. It’s still not clear how that may affect the LifeSize-Skype relationship, Malloy said.

“It probably will. We’re not sure how yet,” Malloy said. “We’re not sure exactly what Microsoft is going to do with Skype. Our sense is that they’re going to leave them as a consumer play, because they already have significant traction with Microsoft Lync in the enterprise.”

Either way, the big-name acquisition is likely to mark a leap forward in awareness and demand for video, he added. “However it plays out, we think it’s going to be good for us.”

LifeSize already works with Microsoft products in addition to Skype. Microsoft Lync is a key part of LifeSize’s strategy of integrating its video offerings with broader unified communications platforms, Malloy said.

Longer term, cloud-based services will deliver video for many more enterprises and SMBs, and LifeSize is well-positioned to take advantage of this trend, Malloy said. Cloud-based video takes advantage of centralized infrastructure so customers only need fairly thin, inexpensive client devices to take part and don’t have to worry about complex installation issues such as firewall traversal, he said. This should make setting up a videoconferencing system much like installing a tabletop speakerphone, which can be plugged into a standard phone jack and automatically deliver dial tone, Malloy said.

LifeSize is well-positioned to deliver such services, partly because of parent company Logitech’s acquisitions of the video chat service SightSpeed and the firewall and NAT (network address translation) traversal software vendor Paradial, Kintz said. Logitech already operates a cloud-based video chat service for consumers, called Logitech Vid, that is hosted in data centers around the world and offered with its consumer webcams.

Science Must end Climate Confusion

Is it  not  more  like  gambling with the intelligence of  world citizens? why are Climate scientists not taking more responsibility about how their work is presented to the public, or it is rather because there is nothing clear to present. In this week’s Green Room/ BBC news by Richard Betts, he emphasizes on the importance of  preventing climate science from being misunderstood or misused. The question is always this, Has this phenomenon been misused by capitalistic influence as a scientific  weapon in manipulating the masses ?

Individual weather events, from heatwaves to big freezes, cannot be used either to prove or disprove climate change

Recently, while  giving  a talk on climate change in a local village hall in Devon, and not surprisingly he was given a hard time.

In fact, it started two days before that. Cut off from work by the snow (which, incidentally, had been forecast with almost pinpoint accuracy), I was out with the kids and being teased by the other dads. He said

“Where’s all this global warming you’re always on about, ha ha!”

The usual stuff, leading to the usual somewhat nerdy discussion on the difference between weather and climate, which was then cut short when one of the children crashed their sledge and asked if we had got that on video to send to a TV show such as You’ve Been Framed.

Of course, we are seeing the same comments in some parts of the press and on Twitter, from those who jump on any bit of cold weather to say it proves that global warming is not happening and we’re all a bunch of idiots (or worse).

No matter how many times we say that “global warming” means a rise of average temperature across the world, decade by decade, and not every year being consistently warmer than the last in every place on Earth, there are still those that get this mixed up.

Warming world

Yes, we have had the coldest December in the UK for 14 years and now we are having a big freeze in early January; but the UK covers less than half of one thousandth of the Earth’s surface.

Last year was actually the fifth warmest year on record as far as global temperatures were concerned.

The four warmest years were, in ascending order, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 1998. The last decade was the warmest on record, followed by the 1990s and then the 1980s, so the world is definitely warming up.

To be fair, people often make the same mistake but in the other direction, and link every heatwave, major flood, drought and famine to global warming.

Of course, we know that these things happen anyway, even without climate change – they may happen more often under a warmer climate, but it is wrong to blame climate change for every single event.

Climate scientists know this, but still there are people outside of climate science who will claim or imply such things if it helps make the news or generate support for their political or business agenda.

Mixed messages

Climate “sceptics” accuse climate scientists of exaggerating the evidence for human-caused climate change in order to secure their own funding; but actually I think that any vested interests in talking up the problem lie elsewhere.

Individual natural disasters are not evidence of climate change

The focus on climate change is now so huge that everybody seems to need to have some link to climate change if they are to attract attention and funding.

Hence the increasing tendency to link everything to climate change – whether scientifically proven or not.

The question is: do climate scientists do enough to counter this? Or are we guilty of turning a blind eye to these things because we think they are on “our side” against the climate sceptics?

It’s easy to blame the media and I don’t intend to make generalisations here, but I have quite literally had journalists phone me up during an unusually warm spell of weather and ask “is this a result of global warming?”

When I say “no, not really, it is just weather”, they’ve thanked me very much and then phoned somebody else, and kept trying until they got someone to say yes it was.

Talking up of the problem then gives easy ammunition to those who wish to discredit the science.

They do not care whether the wrong information came from the scientists or from a second-hand source, they just say (quite rightly) that it’s wrong and therefore why should they trust other parts of the science?

Climate scientists need to take more responsibility for the communication of their work to avoid this kind of thing.

Even if scientists themselves are not blaming everything on climate change, it still reflects badly on us if others do this.

We cannot simply say it is everyone else’s fault; we need to be very clear about what can be used as evidence for or against climate change.

Long-term, large-scale trends and the overall statistics of extreme weather events can and should be part of this evidence base. Individual weather events, from heatwaves to big freezes, cannot be used either to prove or disprove climate change.

If we do not help the media, NGOs and the public to understand this, we have done nothing to stop them getting it wrong.

If our science is misunderstood and misused, and then turned against us, it really will be a case of We’ve Been Framed.

Twitter buys location tracker start-up Mixer Labs

The micro-blogging website Twitter is buying the location tracking start-up Mixer Labs for an undisclosed sum.

Mixer Labs, founded by two former Google employees, makes an application for Twitter called GeoAPI.

Twitter chief executive Evan Williams said the deal would allow Twitter users to show people where they are when they post updates to the site.

The application will also allow users to search where an event is happening, the firm said.

On the company’s blog, a statement said: “We want to know what’s happening, and more precisely, where is it happening.

“As a dramatic example, twittering ‘Earthquake!’ alone is not as informative as ‘Earthquake!’ coupled with your current location”.

Twitter is a social networking site in which users write messages of no more than 140 characters.

An estimated 58 million people use Twitter around the world.

The upcoming disaster movie, directed by The Day After Tomorrow’s Roland Emmerich, but also an enormous, complicated network of apocalypse theories, encompassing hundreds of books, documentaries, films and websites, that lead to one conclusion: The world will end on Dec. 21, 2012. Has been a great question of debate and fears but there is a one light we need to get into. Let’s first see what the child is afraid of;

The Maya is a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well as its art, architecture, and mathematical and astronomical systems. Initially established during the Preclassic period (c. 2000 BC to 250 AD), many Maya cities reached their highest state development during the Classic period (c. 250 AD to 900 AD), and continued throughout the Postclassic period until the arrival of the Spanish. At its peak, it was one of the most densely populated and culturally dynamic societies in the world. ^[1]

The Maya civilization shares many features with other Mesoamerican civilizations due to the high degree of interaction and cultural diffusion that characterized the region. Advances such as writing, epigraphy, and the calendar which stands out as the point of debate did not originate with the Maya; however, their civilization fully developed them

There are competing, but densely interwoven, theories from 2012-ologists about how the Earth will meet its fate – flood, earthquake, rain of fire – and even whether it will mean planetary death or just a brief snooze from which humankind will wake up, refreshed and enlightened, to the dawning of Aquarius.

One popular theory centres on a heretofore invisible planet called X, or Nibiru, whose orbit will swing it near Earth, causing catastrophic disruptions to our atmosphere.

Others mention a possible reversal of the magnetic poles (a rare occurrence, but within the realm of possibility). Still others talk about how there will be a “galactic alignment” of the Earth, sun and planets on Dec. 21, 2012.

Why do many believe in the Maya, there are certain credential that support their point of view for instance, uniquely, there is some evidence to suggest the Maya appear to be the only pre-telescopic civilization to demonstrate knowledge of the Orion Nebula as being fuzzy, i.e. not a stellar pin-point. The information which supports this theory comes from a folk tale that deals with the Orion constellation’s area of the sky. Their traditional hearths include in their middle a smudge of glowing fire that corresponds with the Orion Nebula. This is a significant clue to support the idea that the Maya detected a diffuse area of the sky contrary to the pin points of stars before the telescope was invented.^[23] Many preclassic sites are oriented with the Pleiades and Eta Draconis, as seen in La Blanca, Ujuxte, Monte Alto, and Takalik Abaj.

The Maya were very interested in zenial passages, the time when the sun passes directly overhead. The latitude of most of their cities being below the Tropic of Cancer, these zenial passages would occur twice a year equidistant from the solstice. To represent this position of the sun overhead, the Maya had a god named Diving God.^{[citation needed]}

The Dresden Codex contains the highest concentration of astronomical phenomena observations and calculations of any of the surviving texts (it appears that the data in this codex is primarily or exclusively of an astronomical nature). Examination and analysis of this codex reveals that Venus was the most important astronomical object to the Maya, even more important to them than the sun.

Nostradamus prophesized the name of the antichrist is “Mabus.” This can relate to why people think Obama is the antichrist. If you write obama+bush, you get obamabush. Another interesting theory while reading this remember the Maya. There is a man called Raymond Edwin “Ray” Mabus, Jr. (born October 11, 1948) is an American business and political leader. Based in Mississippi, he works on international business matters, is involved in political campaigns.

In May 2007, he endorsed U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-IL, for president, and is served as a senior adviser to the campaign. The name Mabus comes in This theory is pretty scary for this sort of thing.

. Remember the Maya’s, had an extremely complicated method of keeping track of time, based on three separate calendars. The most important, most encompassing of these calendars holds the `Long Count’: the period from the beginning until the end of time. And on December 21st 2012, the Long Count expires. It will be point zero. Time will be up for the Universe. It will be, literally, the end of days. It would also be the end of Barack Obama’s four year term if elected. So who is the anti Christ and when is the end???

Are you a Christian? Do you believe in what the Bible tells you? Before we go ahead lets see what the Maya’s worshipped and believed in and note this, if you believe in a prophet it means you believe in his god. Maya gods were not separate entities like Greek gods. The gods had affinities and aspects that caused them to merge with one another in ways that seem unbounded. There is a massive array of supernatural characters in the Maya religious tradition, only some of which recur with regularity. Good and evil traits are not permanent characteristics of Maya gods, nor is only “good” admirable Take note of this What is inappropriate during one season might come to pass in another since much of the Maya religious tradition is based on cycles and not permanence.

So are we choosing a prophesy from priest and prophets that who’s worship centered around child sacrifice and praise good as well as evil as a way of living to their devotees?  If the prophesy of the Maya’s for 2012 holds then what about that of Christ which you’ve believed.

7 Ways to Stay Warm.

I feel like the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz.  The difference is the mantra.  His was affirming his belief in spooks, mine is fighting my dread of winter: “I do believe winter can be fun. I do believe winter can be fun.  I do, I do, I do!”  Because truth be told, I don’t think it’s a whole lot of fun.  This is because I’d prefer being in a tank dress over a down coat any day of the week.  But, my current reality is that I live where it’s cold half of the year.  And I am a fun girl.  So I’ve got to find a way to make it work.

I was told by a friend it’s all about the clothes.  To enjoy being outside, you need to be wearing the right gear in order to be warm and still able to move (were you ever or do you have the overstuffed snowsuit kid?)  There’s a method to layering clothes for warmth.  Following these tips from Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills by Abigail R. Gehring (Skyhorse Publishing, Inc., 2008) should keep you and your kids both warm and comfortable.

1. Before thinking about the clothes, realize that food supplies heat to the body; the clothes provide protection so that it isn’t wasted.  Make sure you eat a good meal before spending an extended amount of time outdoors in winter.

2. Several light, comfortably fitted layers are preferable to a single heavy layer.  Generally an outer, mid, and under layer suffice.

3. Underlayer. Two-ply long johns and undershirts, (cotton on the inside for comfort, wool on the outside for warmth, are warmer than thermal-knit underwear.  Two pairs of socks–a thin pair of cotton socks beneath a heavier wool pair–are warmer and more comfortable than a single thick pair.

4. Midlayer. For warmth and ventilation, wear a tightly woven wool shirt that opens tdown the front and a quilted jacket  over it that also opens in the front.  Pants should be of tightly woven wool, cuffless, with plenty of room in the seat and legs, and flaps over the pockets to help keep snow out.  For added ventilation use suspenders rather than a belt.  A woolen stocking hat or mask-like hat will greatly reduce loss of heat from the head.

5. Outer layer. The main job of the outermost layer is to protect against wind, rain and snow.  A parka that covers the hips and has a hood with a full-length zipper is best.  If you’re planning on going above the timberline or along windswept ridges, you’ll need a windproof face mask.  Down pants, mittens and booties are fine around camp, but are too warm for the trail.  Two-piece mittens–a wool liner and a nylon outer shell with a leather palm–are better than gloves.

6.  A good pair of boots are essential.  Double boots–a felt inner liner and high-top outer boot–are warm and comfortable, but very expensive.  A rugged mountaineering boot has many of the benefits of the double boot at a lower cost.  Foam-insulated rubber boots will keep your feet warm, but will also make them perspire.

7. While down provides maximum warmth at minimum weight; wool has the important advantage of retaining its warmth even when wet.

Earth could plunge into sudden ice age

Experts: ‘Big Freeze’ about 12,800 years ago happened within months

In the film, “The Day After Tomorrow,” the world gets gripped in ice within the span of just a few weeks. Now research now suggests an eerily similar event might indeed have occurred in the past.

So much for the “global warming” controversy. Are we getting warmer or colder?

Looking ahead to the future, there is no reason why such a freeze shouldn’t happen again — and in ironic fashion it could be precipitated if ongoing changes in climate force the Greenland ice sheet to suddenly melt, scientists say.

Starting roughly 12,800 years ago, the Northern Hemisphere was gripped by a chill that lasted some 1,300 years. Known by scientists as the Younger Dryas and nicknamed the“Big Freeze,” geological evidence suggests it was brought on when a vast pulse of fresh water — a greater volume than all of North America’s Great Lakes combined — poured into the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

This abrupt influx, caused when the glacial Lake Agassiz in North America burst its banks, diluted the circulation of warmer water in the North Atlantic, bringing this “conveyer belt” to a halt. Without this warming influence, evidence shows that temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere plummeted.

No time to react
Previous evidence from Greenland ice samples had suggested this abrupt shift in climate happened over the span of a decade or so. Now researchers say it surprisingly may have taken place over the course of a few months, or a year or two at most.

“That the climate system can turn on and off that quickly is extremely important,” said earth system scientist Henry Mullins at Syracuse University, who did not take part in this research. “Once the tipping point is reached, there would be essentially no opportunity for humans to react.”

For two years, isotope biogeochemist William Patterson at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada and his colleagues investigated a mud core — a tube of mud — taken from the ancient lake Lough Monreach in Ireland. Because this sediment was deposited slowly over time, each layer from this core effectively represents a snapshot of history, with slices just a half-millimeter thick presenting one to three months.

“Basically, I drive around in western Ireland looking for the right conditions — bedrock, vegetation and lake — to obtain the most complete record of climate,” Patterson explained.

The details By looking at isotopes of carbon in each slice, the researchers could deduce how productive the lake was. When plants grow in lakes, they prefer carbon-12 to make up their organic tissue — that is, carbon atoms that have 12 protons and neutrons in total in their nucleus. This leaves the lake water with relatively more carbon-13. At the same time, oxygen isotopes give a picture of temperature — when animals or plants produce calcium carbonate, the ratio of oxygen-16 and oxygen-18 isotopes within are related to temperature.

At the start of the Younger Dryas, Patterson and his colleagues discovered temperatures and lake productivity dropped over the course of just a few years.

“It would be like taking Ireland today and moving it up to above the Arctic Circle, creating icy conditions in a very short period of time,” Patterson said.

Their findings also suggest that it may have taken 100 to 200 years before the lake and climate recovered, rather than the decade or so that Greenland ice cores had indicated.

“This makes sense because it would take time for the ocean and atmospheric circulation to turn on again,” Patterson said.

The discrepancies between the evidence from the mud core and the ice cores might be due to disturbances in how material flowed within the ice. “Sometimes there’s melting, and you have percolation of material between layers, which can blur the records,” Patterson explained. “We found a core that had not been disturbed even on a millimeter by millimeter basis, so the sediment had been layered in order since it was deposited.”

Chilly future
Looking ahead to the future, Patterson said there was no reason why a big freeze shouldn’t happen again.

“If the Greenland ice sheet melted suddenly it would be catastrophic,” he said.

This kind of scenario would not discount evidence pointing toward global warming — after all, it leans on the Greenland ice sheet melting.

“We could say that global warming could lead to a dramatic cooling,” Patterson told LiveScience. “This should serve as a further warning rather than a pass.”

“People assume that we’re political, that we’re either pro-global-warming or anti-global-warming, when it’s really neither,” Patterson added. “Our goal is just to understand climate.”

Patterson and his colleagues detailed their findings at the European Science Foundation BOREAS conference on humans in the Arctic, in Rovaniemi, Finland.

10 Ways to Go Green and Save Green

How can we live lightly on the Earth and save money at the same time? Staff members at the Worldwatch Institute, a global environmental organization, share ideas on how to GO GREEN and SAVE GREEN at home and at work.

Climate change is in the news. It seems like everyone’s “going green.” We’re glad you want to take action, too. Luckily, many of the steps we can take to stop climate change can make our lives better. Our grandchildren-and their children-will thank us for living more sustainably. Let’s start now.

We’ve partnered with the Million Car Carbon Campaign to help you find ways to save energy and reduce your carbon footprint. This campaign is uniting conscious consumers around the world to prevent the emissions-equivalent of 1 million cars from entering the atmosphere each year.

1. Save energy to save money.

1. • Set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and a few degrees higher in the summer to save on heating and cooling costs.
   • Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) when your older incandescent bulbs burn out.
   • Unplug appliances when you’re not using them. Or, use a “smart” power strip that senses when appliances are off and cuts “phantom” or “vampire” energy use.
   • Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water.
   • Use a drying rack or clothesline to save the energy otherwise used during machine drying.

1. Save water to save money.
   • Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too.
   • Install a low-flow showerhead. They don’t cost much, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment.
   • Make sure you have a faucet aerator on each faucet. These inexpensive appliances conserve heat and water, while keeping water pressure high.
   • Plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. Find out which occur naturally in your area.

1. Less gas = more money (and better health!).

1. • Walk or bike to work. This saves on gas and parking costs while improving your cardiovascular health and reducing your risk of obesity.
   • Consider telecommuting if you live far from your work. Or move closer. Even if this means paying more rent, it could save you money in the long term.
   • Lobby your local government to increase spending on sidewalks and bike lanes. With little cost, these improvements can pay huge dividends in bettering your health and reducing traffic.

1. Eat smart.
   • If you eat meat, add one meatless meal a week. Meat costs a lot at the store-and it’s even more expensive when you consider the related environmental and health costs.
   • Buy locally raised, humane, and organic meat, eggs, and dairy whenever you can. Purchasing from local farmers keeps money in the local economy.
   • Watch videos about why local food and sustainable seafood are so great.
   • Whatever your diet, eat low on the food chain [pdf]. This is especially true for seafood.

1. Skip the bottled water.
   • Use a water filter to purify tap water instead of buying bottled water. Not only is bottled water expensive, but it generates large amounts of container waste.
   • Bring a reusable water bottle, preferably aluminum rather than plastic, with you when traveling or at work.

1. Think before you buy.

1. • Go online to find new or gently used secondhand products. Whether you’ve just moved or are looking to redecorate, consider a service like craigslist or FreeSharing to track down furniture, appliances, and other items cheaply or for free.
   • Check out garage sales, thrift stores, and consignment shops for clothing and other everyday items.
   • When making purchases, make sure you know what’s “Good Stuff” and what isn’t.
   • Watch a video about what happens when you buy things. Your purchases have a real impact, for better or worse.

1. Borrow instead of buying.
   • Borrow from libraries instead of buying personal books and movies. This saves money, not to mention the ink and paper that goes into printing new books.
   • Share power tools and other appliances. Get to know your neighbors while cutting down on the number of things cluttering your closet or garage.

   • Wear clothes that don’t need to be dry-cleaned. This saves money and cuts down on toxic chemical use.

   • Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible.

8 Clever Ways to Avoid Cell Phone Radiation

You can limit your exposure to cell phone radiation, and still communicate with your wireless.

Research has not yet established whether cell phone radiation is harmful. But. Some studies are troubling enough that we recommend reducing your exposure by buying a low-radiation phone or making some simple changes in the way you use your phone.

If you’re one of those people who like to understand the “why” of it all, you’ll appreciate the first post in this series where we explain the science of cell-phone radiation exposure.

No need to panic and ditch your phone (we at EWG certainly aren’t giving up ours). Here’s how to protect your health and stay in touch.

1. Use a Headset or a Speaker

Headsets emit much less radiation than phones. Experts are split on whether wired or wireless headsets are safer. (Check out EWG’s guide to headsets). Some wireless headsets emit continuous low-level radiation, so take yours off when you’re not on a call. Using your phone in speaker mode also reduces radiation to the head.

2. Listen More, Talk Less

Your phone emits radiation when you talk or text but not when you’re receiving messages. Listening more and talking less reduces your exposures.

3. Text

Phones use less power (which means less radiation) to send text instead of voice. Also, texting keeps the phone — the radiation source — away from your head.

4. Phone at Arm’s Length

Hold the phone away from your torso when you’re talking with headset or speaker, not against your ear, in a pocket, or on your belt, where soft body tissues absorb radiation.

5. Buy a Low-Radiation Phone

Not all phones are created equal: Look up your phone on EWG’s buyer’s guide. (Your phone’s model number may be printed under your battery.) If you’re in the market for a new phone, find one that emits the lowest radiation possible and still meets your needs.

6. Weak Signal? Stay Off the Phone

Fewer signal bars mean the phone has to step up its emissions to contact the tower. Call when your phone has a strong signal.

7. Skipo ‘Radiation Shields’

Radiation shields such as antenna caps or keypad covers reduce the connection quality and force the phone to transmit at a higher power with higher radiation.

8. Limit Children’s Phone Use

Young children’s brains absorb twice as much cell phone radiation as those of adults. EWG joins health agencies in at least 6 countries in recommending limiting children’s phone use, such as for emergencies only.

 

All hope is lost for Copenhagen climate treaty; British officials say

A world treaty on climate change will be delayed by up to a year and is likely to be watered down because countries with the highest greenhouse gas emissions are refusing to commit to legally binding reductions.

British officials preparing for next month’s UN summit in Copenhagen said the best that could be hoped for was that national leaders would make “political agreements” on emission cuts and payments to help poor countries to adapt to climate change. These agreements would be non-binding, however, and could later be revised or rescinded by national parliaments.

At pre-summit talks in Barcelona, the officials said the final agreement would not emerge until at least six months after the Copenhagen summit, which ends on December 17. They said they hoped another meeting would be convened by next December to allow leaders to sign the treaty.

The admission that no treaty will be signed at Copenhagen marks the failure of the process agreed at a UN meeting in Bali in December 2007, when industrialised countries agreed to deliver a binding climate-change agreement within two years. The delay has angered developing countries, which say they are already suffering from man-made climate change.

The Global Humanitarian Forum, based in Geneva, has estimated that more than 300,000 people are killed each year by climate change, nearly all of them in poor countries.

Delegates from 190 countries are now trying to agree a new timetable for signing a treaty but it is likely to be vague and contain no clear deadline.

Ed Miliband, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, told the House of Commons yesterday that little progress was being made in Barcelona, where delegates are discussing more than the 1,000 remaining disagreements over wording. He said: “The UN negotiations are moving too slowly and not going well. We would have preferred a full legal treaty, it has to be said. I think the important thing about the agreement we now seek in December is that while it may be a political agreement it must lead, on a very clear timetable, to a legally binding treaty.”

Artur Runge-Metzger, the European Commission’s negotiator on climate change, said in Barcelona that the absence of commitment from the United States on emission cuts was a key factor contributing to the delay, although other countries were also to blame. He said that without a treaty the EU would agree to cut its 1990 emissions by only 20 per cent by 2020, whereas with a treaty it would agree to a 30 per cent cut. Cuts of 25-40 per cent are needed by developed countries if a dangerous rise in global temperatures is to be avoided, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a UN-appointed group of more than 2,000 scientists.

China, the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, has also failed to announce targets. It has promised to cut carbon dioxide emisissions per unit of GDP but has not said by how much.

Benedict Dempsey, Save the Children’s humanitarian policy officer, said: “The cost of any delay to a climate deal will be counted in children’s lives. Save the Children estimates that 250,000 children could be killed by climate change next year.

“Negotiators must realise that the world’s poorest communities can’t afford to wait.”

Joss Garman, of Greenpeace UK, said the EU should put more pressure on the US to agree targets. Copenhagen was the best chance to slash emissions, he said, but added “politicians seem determined to blow it”.

He said that the US, influenced by “Big Carbon special interests”, was “a dead weight” on the talks.

Aspirin and Heart Attacks

Aspirin may prevent blood clots from forming in the arteries of the heart, the primary cause of heart attacks in patients with coronary heart disease. I recommend taking a baby aspirin (81 mg) once daily–higher doses aren’t more effective and cause more side effects such as bleeding.

However, taking aspirin is just one of the ways you can reduce the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Most people with coronary heart disease also need a cholesterol-lowering medication (a statin), but that depends on the lipid levels in the blood. You may want to discuss this with your physician.

If you smoke, you need to stop, and systolic blood pressure (the top number) should be brought below 140 mm Hg (or below 130 if you’re diabetic). Medications that lower blood pressure and may also prevent complications of coronary disease include angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and, especially if you’ve had a heart attack, beta-blockers.

Many studies have shown that fully implementing these preventative approaches–in addition to a healthy diet, weight loss in overweight patients, and moderate exercise–can greatly reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes in people with coronary heart diseases.

Nevertheless while waiting on the practical implementation of Dr. Klaus Lackner’s  There are many possible wedges that could each reduce green house gases  emissions including improvements to energy efficiency and vehicle fuel economy (so less energy has to be produced), and increases in wind and solar power, hydrogen produced from renewable sources, biofuels (produced from crops), natural gas, and nuclear power.  There is also the potential to capture the carbon dioxide emitted from fossil fuels and store it underground—a process called “carbon sequestration.”

The evidence that humans are causing global warming is strong, but the question of what to do about it remains controversial. We are all an important factor in planning for the future.

At times we wonder why in life certain bad things do happen to us? At times we are lost in our thoughts and only harm our selfs the more when finding our way out by indulging our thoughts more and more into those bad scenes of the past and so the cycle never ends. One keep asking the question “why do certain bad things happen to me” The more you think about something the more you invoke the spirits of that entity from the past to the present it becomes live and this energy controls your life.

Friends of mine were traveling in Europe with a hire car. At each city they would leave the car and explore the area. They were always concerned about finding the car when they had finished site seeing. In Sienna, Italy, they parked their car near a sign which said furmata. Now they were safe; if they got lost they just had to ask where furmata was and they could get back to their vehicle.

Well, again they were lost. Easy, they thought, find someone who could speak English and ask where furmata is. It didn’t take long so they asked the English speaker how to get back to the car. They said it’s parked near furmata. Can you believe their dismay when they were told that furmata is Italian for “bus stop”.

In life, as in travel, if you choose points of reference to make sense of life, be sure your points of reference make sense. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life.” I believe Jesus to be a great point of reference for life.

I am trying to situate my point of reference in all I do to something that makes universal sense and that is Jesus, what about you. ?

Loneliness

As quoted by  Joseph Addison (1672 – 1719), The Spectator True happiness is of a retired nature, and an enemy to pomp and noise; it arises, in the first place, from the enjoyment of one’s self, and in the next from the friendship and conversation of a few select companions.  throughout our lives, is there rarely anything so important to us as acceptance. In school or at church there is the “popular” group, and everyone, or nearly everyone, wants to be in it. Even if we are not “popular”, we all want to have friends. The feeling of being accepted by someone; known for who we are, and yet still loved, is something each one of us yearns for.

In our quest for acceptance and friends, we fail to realize how painful and difficult friendships can be. When you finally have a friend, there is a short time of carefree elation, but then the work begins. Maintaining a real friendship takes time and commitment. There is always joy and happiness to be found with your friends, but a times, the cost may be high.

During the course of a relationship, there are ups and downs. One moment, you and your friend may be very close; the next, you feel remote. One day, you may talk for hours, and then the next, you suddenly have nothing to say to each other. Sometimes, the closeness returns. And sometimes, you keep growing further and further apart until your friend is lost from you forever; reasons being the pride of life, the quest for others to worship and idolize our presence or just because of the so much importance and attention something we are not ready to give in return but want to take from others, etc, When you first start to lose your friend, you go through a stage of denial. Eventually, when you come to accept the fact that your friendship will never be what it once was, you feel intensely sorrowful.

I will never forget when I first realized how distant my friend Nadia was becoming. At first, I wrote it off as imagination, but as time went on, I learned to accept the fact that she no longer wanted to be my friend. On the night I fully realized that, I cried myself to sleep.

As I grow older, and I begin to watch many people learn the same lessons about friendship that I had to, I wonder if having friendships is really worth it. Maybe I could make it better by myself. Do I really want the pain that comes with being a friend? What about a friend that has mastered the arts of making you knows how that your presence is not noticeable.

Yet I’ve come to realize that I was created for fellowship. Everyone needs to be loved; we all need people we can depend on. In the same way, we also require someone to love, and we need to be depended upon. While there are – and always will be – times of pain in every relationship, there are also times of great happiness. And from the mixture of these two – great pain and great happiness – comes overwhelming joy. The joy of accepting and being accepted. The joy of being loved as you are, and of loving in return. The joy that comes from being a friend.

On The Wings Of Freedom

Becoming free is not changing yourself into someone you think you should be. Becoming free is falling in love with who you are- right now.

So many people live in a self-imposed slavery because they’ve been betrayed by selfish lovers. Some would like to portray spiritual freedom as only a call to give up something, but it’s more of a call to gain something greater. Writer C.S. Lewis once compared our spiritual blindness to a small child’s fixation with his sandbox. When his parents remove him from the sandbox for a vacation at the beach, he may kick, scream and cry. But all this ceases at the first sight of beach, sand dunes and vast ocean horizons. Suddenly, the sandbox isn’t so appealing.

The problem isn’t that we’re seeking too much pleasure but that we’re settling for too little. We’re so infatuated with our little mud pies in the sandbox that we can’t see the vast oceans and continents God would have us explore.

How God ever got tagged as being against pleasure, I’ll never know. For King David wrote, “You will show me the path of life; In your presence is fullness of joy; At your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11).

Have you ever noticed the faces of those who try to find life apart from God? The strain of life in the sandbox shows. In our hearts, we know there must be something more, but few have the courage to question prejudices they inherit from culture, friends, family, false religion and tyrants. Of course, our own bad decisions play a role in keeping us confined as well because we tend to justify ourselves rather than admit our guilt.

True freedom requires revolution. Our forefathers declared freedom from English tyranny by signing the Declaration of Independence, Our forefathers fought the wars of independence to free us from the rod of colonials masters,. Many people have died so people can live free in America, Africa etc.

Your mind does not know the difference between what you do want or what you don’t want, it only knows what you focus on. Many people focus on what they don’t have, what they are incapable of doing and their sicknesses.

Do not get caught up in modifying your life, allow life to change YOU. Modification is a superficial exterior veneer; change is an inner shift in consciousness. There is no such thing as a mistake- only experience. There is no such thing as failure- only people’s condemnation. There is no such thing as success- only people’s approval. Let life live through you.

Practise seeing all life around you as an aspect of yourself. In this way you shatter the illusion of separation.  Pain is a measure of your resistance to change, Decide whether you want to be an onlooker of life or a participant. This is the birthplace of choice

We declare freedom from the sandbox (lies that promise life but never deliver) when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior. Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sin and rose again to break the bonds of death. He wants us to experience the vast oceans of life that flow from him as the source of eternal and abundant life.

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Jesus wants to be your liberator and source of life. Will you declare your dependence upon him today?

point to ponder: Jesus came to set us free and to give us life.

Scripture to remember: “Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Question to consider: Are you living free in Christ or enslaved by your own fears, traditions or passions?

For as long as we search for Our God Self, we deny that we are it. Loving  your self reveals your truth.

Faith

Just like the wind, i do not know if i am today‘s tempest from the east or just fanning the west. My compass makes me look to the dusty north and back to greener south yet in both directions all i see is hope. But then, presently i am at rest with no project nor drafts but a vision of wealth. One thing I know and I am sure about is that when my storm will start to blow, I can assure you i will hit like a tsunami and leave no stone un-turn but for now i am gathering just that momentum at rest.

Africa’s green complex

Living in a world where nature stands as the only remedy in saving humanity from a fast growing industrialization trend, the seat of nature Africa with it’s dense evergreen rainforest and balance ecosystem is not ready to take that remedial responsibility.

Many Africans today are not more willing to accept the attribute of “primitive” for to them it all seems to renders the black race as inferior to the western race. This inferiority complex seems to stand out as one of the most important causal factors of denunciation. Many Africans today just want to wipe away from their garments anything that will refer to them as primitive. Many individuals find denunciation to be the best way to compensate for the many limitations placed about them, a method much superior to retaliation on the quid pro quo basis, their society considers it an acceptable form of resistance. There is hereby a consequential effect of imitating anything that will strip off any trace of primitively. As such, a very harsh enculturation method is deployed one of them being ; Moving away from, and denying one self from anything that will attribute him/her to bush life. He/she thereby envisages or dreams of living in a city like New York or London as seen on TV paved everywhere with no forest around him. He considers his immediate surrounding a menace to his personal pride and the love for nature is destroyed in his heart. He harness in him and all around him that which is hunting many Africans today “ the Green Complex” .

It will be but unfortunate that in a country like Cameroon(Africa) with vast grasslands regions producing all kinds of beautiful flowers from roses to tulips yet, 85% of that population will prefer to offer their love ones artificial flowers imported from western countries on Valentine day not just because everyone wants to attribute his/her self to the western lifestyle but unfortunately because of the lack of knowledge on how to cater for or conserve a bunch of fresh roses, the wrong notion about civilization, the lack of knowledge about the richness and  balance ecosystem of the evergreen rainforest and it’s role in stabilizing Climate change and green gas emission.

In June 17, 2008 Gordon Brown launched a fund to save Congo’s rain forest with a sum of £58M from the UK with the goal to tackle climate change by preventing deforestation in the world’s second largest tropical forest. Note that this forest is in a country (Africa) where the people will not accept anything that will attribute them to bush people or monkeys as recent racist slogans have pointed so deforestation to them is more of destroying an insult and not just nature.

Gordon Brown said:“It is a great honor to mark the launch of the Congo Basin Forest Fund. Together we are pledging to work together to secure the future of one of the world’s last remaining ancient forests. Preserving our forests is vital if we are going to reduce global emissions and tackle climate change”. If we underline the word ancient and deem it from a lay Africans perspective considering his stereotype mind about how the western world is considering his race and the wrong notion he/she has about civilization, we will understand why this forest is fast disappearing.

The Secretary of State for International Development, Douglas Alexander said “The Basin houses a quarter of the world’s rainforest, but already an area the size of 25,000 football pitches is cleared of trees every week”. With this, I believe the road-map to healing the worlds green nature begins from healing the green complex that has infested the minds of those who are like care-takers to the green remedy

Ever wondered what is the real essence of the saying “A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed”? People talk about the true value of friendship without knowing what it stands for. There are certain categories of friends we most learn to avoid. We all know “fair-weather” friends are no good.” A “fair-weather” friend is just that, they’re there when the times are going good and all is well. As soon as things go bad or you need emotional support, your fair weathered friend will be hard to find and not available. If the bond between two friends is strong, true friends can endure even long distances. They find a way of being in touch despite busy schedules.
There is this other category of “know-it-all” friends, they are always telling us why our life is not right and how things will turn out unless we do exactly what they say. They are motherly and they will smother us. They, however, will not ask for your input or advice. “In short, friends cannot be your family, they can’t be your project, they can’t be your psychiatrist. But they can be your friends, which is plenty
So what is the remedy? In “Madea goes to jail” writer Tyler Perry states this: “Friends can be compared to trees. There are friends that are like the leaves, these would be equal to “fair-weather”. There are there for a while but then they are gone when the season change. Then you have those that are like the branches, they are more durable than the leaves but eventually they will not be able to support all the circumstances you go through in life and will break away.” Now this is not a bad thing but you must understand that not all friend are met to be around all the time. There will come times where you will outgrow some of your friends or you may have a friend come into your life for just a certain time and once they have accomplished what they were suppose to accomplish in your life they will move on. Let them go. The most important fact is leaves and branches grow back. These friends will be replaced in time.
Back to Tyler Perry’s definition of friends being like trees: “Then you have those that are like the trunk of the tree, these are similar to your life long friends.” They will be there when times are tough, when you lose your job, when you have bad relationships and spats with your family. These friends are few and far in-between. Just look around and see those that are there for you in your times of need. The ones that will step out of their own comfort to help you. They will laugh, cry, get angry, protect, tell the truth and the list goes on. They add to you in more ways then one. They are a support system to you. They listen and their advice comes from what is best for you with out self motives.
Finally Perry states that you have friends that are like the root of the tree. These friends are friends that are sent to aid you in anyway necessary. They add quality to your life and those around you. They are the ones that know you need something and they do it without you asking them. They are the ones that are your friend even when everyone else is questioning your character. They never change, they are always the same. Simply put how to determine your real friends, look at your life and see who has been there for you through thick and thin. Besides your family, you will find that you have a few friends that are true-blue.

How can we find true friendship in this often phony, temporary world? Friendship involves recognition or familiarity with another’s personality. Friends often share likes and dislikes, interests, pursuits, and passion.
How can we recognize potential friendship? Signs include a mutual desire for companionship and perhaps a common bond of some kind. Beyond that, genuine friendship involves a shared sense of caring and concern, a desire to see one another grow and develop, and a hope for each other to succeed in all aspects of life. True friendship involves action: doing something for someone else while expecting nothing in return; sharing thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or negative criticism. Those mutual attributes become the foundation in which recognition transpires into relationship, Trust is essential to true friendship Faithfulness and loyalty are key to true friendship. Without them, we often feel betrayed, left out, and lonely. In true friendship, there is no backbiting, no negative thoughts, no turning away.
1ST Samuel 20 focuses on the friendship of David and Jonathan. These two men truly cared for each other and had great trust and confidence in one another. David was running for his life from Jonathan’s father, Saul. Jonathan recognized that David was innocent. Because of the true friendship they shared, David survived Saul’s assassination attempts and went on to become one of Israel’s greatest kings.
Real and true friendship involves freedom of choice, accountability, truth, and forgiveness. Peter and Jesus give us this example: Peter, afraid for his life after Jesus is led away from the Garden of Gethsemane, denies knowing Jesus (John 18). As He is led away by His accusers, Jesus casts a look toward Peter that says, “I knew you would deny Me, and I forgive you” (John 21).
Real friendship looks at the heart, not just the “packaging.” Genuine friendship loves for love’s sake, not just for what it can get in return. True friendship is both challenging and exciting. It risks, it overlooks faults, and it loves unconditionally, but it also involves being truthful, even though it may hurt. Genuine friendship, also called “agape” love, comes from the Lord. The Lord Jesus calls us His friends and He laid down His life for us (John 15).
Relationships in real life involve different levels of friendships, and that’s okay. But humans are designed by God for lasting relationships. Often our isolationist society offers only vague, empty relationships. God wants us to have friends here on earth. Most of all, He wants us to be friends with Him!
Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more people. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis. Friends will welcome each other’s company and exhibit loyalty towards each other
Do you need a friend? God wants to be your true friend. Are you longing for companionship? God is always with you (Hebrews 13:5). Who do you know who needs a true friend today? God wants you to befriend others. He calls us to be His hands and feet in a world starving for true friendship.

Christmas with the Devil

Before reading hold it in mind that we all  today celebrate 25^th December as the day Jesus Christ was born that is clear and simple and no one is ready to spoil that party with some historian’s digging  hammer. “ Oh spare me the details” are words you’ll hear while trying to point out the things that do not just add up here about 25^TH December, who was Santa Cruz, was Jesus Christ really born on the 25^TH OF December, what is the  origin of the Christmas tree, the Mistletoe ? .   Alas!! Without much ado just bare with me a five minuet walk as we together contemplate over this  ; If a forensic expert was to read through the blood of martyrdom and public disgrace that filled drainages and potholes on the streets of Rome  when the Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. One will wonder why choose but this date to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration.( wow a world without punishments? Maybe this is why we celebrate today how ever read on and fine out),   The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” ( who were this enemies?) this people were chosen  to represent the “Lord of Misrule.”  Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week( why )  At the festival’s conclusion, December 25^th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.

An ancient Greek writer poet and historian Lucian (in his dialogue entitled Saturnalia) describes the festival’s observance in his time.  In addition to human sacrifice, he mentions these customs: widespread intoxication; going from house to house while singing naked; rape and other sexual license; and consuming human-shaped biscuits (still produced in some English and most German bakeries during the Christmas season). And the activities have not changed today.

The New Testament gives no date or year for Jesus’ birth.  The earliest gospel – St. Mark’s, written about 65 CE – begins with the baptism of an adult Jesus.  This suggests that the earliest Christians lacked interest in or knowledge of Jesus’ birthdates.  The misconception came into place during  the 4^th century CE, when Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it. -This means the Saturnalia festival was first celebrated before and Christians adopted this custom turning it to Christmass-, Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians. So you can understand that there was a bargain of interest here and not as a result of celebrating the exact date of the birth of Christ. When we accept Jesus Christ as out lord and personal savoir it is not supposed to be conditional, We can not save Jesus on condition that we will continue in our idol or pagan worship.  Some of the most depraved customs of the Saturnalia carnival were intentionally revived by the Catholic Church in 1466 when Pope Paul II, for the amusement of his Roman citizens, forced Jews to race naked through the streets of the city.  An eyewitness account reports, “Before they were to run, the Jews were richly fed, so as to make the race more difficult for them and at the same time more amusing for spectators.  They ran… amid Rome’s taunting shrieks and peals of laughter, while the Holy Father stood upon a richly ornamented balcony and laughed heartily

As part of the Saturnalia carnival throughout the 18^th and 19^th centuries CE, rabbis of the ghetto in Rome were forced to wear clownish outfits and march through the city streets to the jeers of the crowd, pelted by a variety of missiles. When the Jewish community of Rome sent a petition in1836 to Pope Gregory XVI begging him to stop the annual Saturnalia abuse of the Jewish community, he responded, “It is not opportune to make any innovation.” On December 25, 1881, Christian leaders whipped the Polish masses into Anti-Semitic frenzies that led to riots across the country.  In Warsaw 12 Jews were brutally murdered, huge numbers maimed, and many Jewish women were raped.  Two million rubles worth of property  was  destroyed.

Look at this scenario;

We have to understand the celebrating the birth of something is celebrating it in it’s  roots and origin now, imagine that your great-great-great-grandchildren were about to celebrate Hitlerday.  April 20^th arrived. They had long forgotten about Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen.  They had never heard of gas chambers or death marches.  They had purchased champagne and caviar, and were about to begin the party, when someone reminded them of the day’s real history and their ancestors’ agony.  Imagine that they initially objected, “We aren’t celebrating the Holocaust; we’re just having a little Hitlerday party.”  If you could travel forward in time and meet them; if you could say a few words to them, what would you advise them to do on Hitlerday? Ok here is it no more Saturnalia but Christmass day that is ok. But if we on this day indulge on the pagan  practices and customs of saturnalia the widespread intoxication; going from house to house while singing naked- the fashion of today leave our girls vittually naked; rape and other sexual license; and consuming human-shaped biscuits can we pretend to call it Christmas. If black garments were made to mourn to the death and white for happiness and tomorrow you put on white garments yet spend your entire day in the cemetery mourning and performing death rituals how does the white garment erase the fact that you are mourning?

On December 25, 1941, Julius Streicher, one of the most vicious of Hitler’s assistants, celebrated Christmas by penning the following editorial in his rabidly Antisemitic newspaper, Der Stuermer:

If one really wants to put an end to the continued prospering of this curse from heaven that is the Jewish blood, there is only one way to do it: to eradicate this people, this Satan’s son, root and branch.  I hope we are reading this together?

The Origins of practices now related to Christmas Customs we most note that this things are not written in the Bible and Christ never mention them so if you are doing this things do not attribute ceremonies to them because you might be worshipping or beforming certain rituals unknowingly

Christmas Trees

Just as early Christians recruited Roman pagans by associating Christmas with the Saturnalia, so too worshippers of the Asheira cult and its offshoots were recruited by the Church sanctioning “Christmas Trees”. Pagans had long worshipped trees in the forest, or brought them into their homes and decorated them, and this observance was adopted and painted with a Christian veneer by the Church.

Mistletoe

Norse mythology recounts how the god Balder was killed using a mistletoe arrow by his rival god Hoder while fighting for the female  Nanna.  Druid rituals use mistletoe to poison their human sacrificial victim. The Christian custom of “kissing under the mistletoe” is a later synthesis of the sexual license of Saturnalia with the Druidic s

It is not without noting that in pre-Christian Rome, the emperors compelled their most despised citizens to bring offerings and gifts during the Saturnalia (in December) and Kalends (in January).  Later, this ritual expanded to include gift-giving among the general populace.  The Catholic Church gave this custom a Christian flavor by re-rooting it in the supposed gift-giving of Saint Nicholas (see below).

Santa Claus

Nicholaswas born in Parara, Turkey in 270 CE and later became Bishop of Myra.  He died in 345 CE on December 6^th.  He was only named a saint in the 19^th centurIn 1087, a group of sailors who idolized Nicholas moved his bones from Turkey to a sanctuary in Bari, Italy.  There Nicholas supplanted a female boon-giving deity called The Grandmother, or Pasqua Epiphania, who used to fill the children’s stockings with her gifts. The Grandmother was ousted from her shrine at Bari, which became the center of the Nicholas cult.  Members of this group gave each other gifts during a pageant they conducted annually on the anniversary of Nicholas’ death, December 6. The Nicholas cult spread north until it was adopted by German and Celtic pagans.  These groups worshipped a pantheon led by Woden –their chief god and the father of Thor, Balder, and Tiw.  Woden had a long, white beard and rode a horse through the heavens one evening each Autumn.  When Nicholas merged with Woden, he shed his Mediterranean appearance, grew a beard, mounted a flying horse, rescheduled his flight for December, and donned heavy winter clothing. In a bid for pagan adherents in Northern Europe, the Catholic Church adopted the Nicholas cult and taught that he did (and they should) distribute gifts on December 25^th instead of December 6^th.

It seems scary when one thinks of all this facts and hypothesis put forth together in  time Why do you celebrate christmass????

Remember that God foretold his plan for humanity through the Hebrew prophets hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Isaiah, for one, wrote, “The Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. . . . For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. . . . But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” On a personal level, his life enriches us today, and tells us death is not the end. His inspiration leads us to act beyond our own self-interest. His message of faith, love, and compassion will forever challenge us in our strength and comfort us in our weakness.
The intent of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of a special child, Jesus Christ, into this world on a daily basis. The world has been a much better place since he was born in Bethlehem on that day long ago. The life, and death, of Jesus altered the course of history more than any other person who has ever lived.

On an earthly level, his service to humanity has been a great leap forward that reverberates to this day. While he has been a leading inspiration for advancements in Western culture, in science, in medicine, and in the arts, we also know Jesus as the greatest social reformer ever to walk the earth. Before his birth, the world had little compassion for women, the sick, the lame, the elderly, or for human life in general.

So why do we decide to spend our entire year, in sin and all types of abominable things just to pretend to remember Christ on Christmas? It is through his revelation that all people are equal before God, and that all people have basic God-given rights and freedoms. So why should you choose a day that this freedom was denied to many people to celebrate this birth of Christ.

Nevertheless it is not the dates and time that matter. It is about what you celebrate, is it just about a party, Santa Cruz, the desire to impress someone , to show off Or just the  December 25^TH fever ?,  Are you a Christian or just a church goers that picks up or take advantage of special dates  to eat and drink and party? Have you ever thought about the implications behind this dates when you do the wrong things on certain dates?  No matter what happened on the 25^th no matter what customs and traditions that were behind this date if Christ really lives in you and you celebrate him at every moment in your life thanking him during every other day of your life just as  the 25^TH then 25^TH december becomes no problem. It is only bad when we  do abominable things on this day implying we are only commemorating or honoring the abomination that many committed on this day during the feast  of saturnalia.

So do not panic, do not throw away your gift  nor your parties, but do  throw away pagan practices things that do not give glory to God. Throw away hatred and sin not just because it is Christmass but because Jesus was born to make every day of your life wonderful  and you’ll wake up every day to perceiving every hour as if it was just another Christmas. Key to Happiness

“Men best show their character in trifles, where they are not on their guard. It is in the simplest habits, that we often see the boundless egotism which pays no regard to the feelings of others and denies nothing to itself.” We all at times think we know what it is to be happy, at times we wonder when ask “what are the things that makes you happy”? one might answer “my baby”, but sooner or later it is not more a baby but that grown up man or woman behind the bars convicted or drugs, arm robbery, or terrorism how so soon has that happiness grown to be become an eternal agony. I know of a man who dreamed since he was a kid on how one day he will get married and built a family he met a wonderful lady when he was 25 and spent over 3 years with her as fiancée just making sure there were made for each other before marriage the happiest moment of his life was his wedding and the source of his joy was his wife 2 years after his wedding he was out of town for a week and left his wife at home things went a bid speedy and he had to come back home just a day after he left instead of the 5 days previewed. So he decided to make it a surprise he bought the favorite morning suit he has w ever dreamed of seeing his dreamed wife wearing having, a bouquet of his favorite rose flowers graced with treasured perfume. He know she slept a little late and he thought he will take the train that arrives his little town at 4 in the morning then he will sneak into their apartment and get up his wife from bed with a bunch of roses then give her a hot bath an dress her in his favorite morning suit. 4:30 he has pulled off his shoe as not to make any noise and was sneaking through the corridor with a smile of happiness and pride on his face as he held the bunch of roses and night dress well sealed with golden ribbons silently he pulled the door of their bedroom and there on their matrimonial bed was his wife with a wonderful smile on her face sleeping like a baby coiled in the arms of another man. Is there anything that one can really derived eternal happiness from without one day feeling so terrible about it? Is there happiness that can last for eternity. Note that this man bought all what he has ever dreamed of buying for his dream wife and not what his dream wife has ever dreamed of having some people take their entire courtship period trying to convince a lady to love them but fail to understand how much there need to allow the lady convince them that she has been looking for a man like them. Adhering your mind to something as a source of happiness is something we most be very careful about . Has that source been adhered to you?

In all my keen findings I met a lady who took me up to the unique closeness of what I could only but imagine. Just by an accidental peering through the keyhole this praise oriented room that I caught sight with this very sublime scene. There are this circles in our society that opens it doors so wide for anyone to come in but the devil closes the doors of our taste and desires from being allured by the glory that beacons from inside. I am talking here about the church. For years there was this lady a devoted convert who after seeking to obtain eternal happiness, was fortunate to find that solace in Christ, she felt an endless bliss an encompassing glory about all she did after surrendering her life to Christ but!! One day she discovered something that seemed to deprive her of all that??? This was a certain guilt. On her wedding day she had accepted to be join as “one” with her husband that is flesh of her flesh and blood of her blood so that happiness of hers could not be complete if a part of her ( her husband ) has not surrendered his life to Christ. She new she was saved and that if she died she will go to heaven but that did not stop the fact that she was existing as human and living around people, friends, parents and especially her husband with whom she shared all with except –her source of eternal happiness Jesus Christ- it was there that she discovered that she had not attended that happiness she taught of.

How then can one live internally and eternally happy on earth. Truly we can live it in our hearts but can we exert this inner force unto eternal influence in other to obtain that inner results of contentment on things that we touch and feel on our daily basis? This lady was reading one day a book of quotes and the first line on it said “ happiness is like a perfume that we can not pretend to pour on our neighbors without living a little spray on us. Even if we remain crafty about sharing that perfume, someone even a passerby will make the famous ‘’ ‘You smell good’! remark” she was thinking has she ever tried to share that salvation story with her husband? Or even friends, family etc. some ladies give birth to very beautiful babies that baby that every one want to carry this beauty open doors and pride comes in she lavishes the baby with all that will reflect beauty unfortunately she forgets one thing which is if the baby enjoys her? Do you see those mothers that give their babies a bath about 6 times a day and suffocate them with costly perfumes just to impress strangers? There kids are their happiness but if that kid can support t six baths in a day and is allergic to sprays you become a problem in the child’s life, You force him with the shoes he does not like and as he grows your happiness increases as his anger does, at 18 he gets into drugs to buy the pair of sneakers he likes and not what you have been forcing him into then he ends up in jail and you heart is broken for life. When you love a woman do not take from her what you have been looking for all your life give to her what she has been looking for all her life else you might be enjoying a happiness she is still looking for and the day she finds it your heart will be broken in pieces.

Now going back to the converted Christian, she sat thinking of the church sermons , Christian gatherings and parties she had attended all alone. She taught that was happiness but has not realized how wonderful it could be to be there with the man you love. She noticed she had found a wonderful fragrance and had lavished it all on herself without thinking of sharing with the one she lived with. From the living room she could hear her husband telling a friend on the balcony “ I don’t know what got over her, but I know she feel more happy than ever since ever she started a book and she keeps that book appears so fragile that I just do not want to turn it over and upset her I just feel happy to know she is happy” she knew he was talking about her bible she has never had time to share with him. Truly she had found the source of happiness like a perfume she had craftily worn it on her self yet that fragrance left a remarkable impact in the lives of others but she had not allowed herself to share the source of this happiness with others. From peering through this keyhole I came to understand that just like a tree that we water every day to bare fruits we need to share and give back into the source of our happiness day after day either directly or indirectly through others around us for it is only through this that we can immortalize happiness else one day this try will wither and die.

I remember a quotation in my urban Geography class that read ‘ Migrants do not move to empty destination but towards better opportunities’ Meaning before a journey begins we all set goals either specific or still to be defined but, what is certain is that the quest for some better ending is always assured, Nevertheless boiling down to details like, the satisfaction one will want to get out of a glass of water when thirsty, a plate of dessert, etc. points out this certainty of aspirations either consciously or unconsciously.

What does Narcissism or masturbation has to do destinations or goals?, Narcissism which I will call it rather materialistic describes the trait of excessive self-love, based on self-image or ego. We can say on the other hand that eating describes the trait of excessive taste-love based on hunger or gloat. One may herewith associate the description of masturbation and Narcissism with the difference that Masturbation is not materialistic that is it not based on ego, on same dimension as deriving pleasure or pleasing one self with sophisticated perfumes, outfits and jewelry or strolling in crowed parks ; Narcissism being the kind of self love that is practice in the open. Masturbation is the kind that is done on secrecy there is no need for perfumes and clothing the individual finds much pleasure being alone in a quite room and feeling his own body odor or form. The endpoint in both struggle and play is self satisfaction or at times confusion.

Going back to the term Narcissism it is a word derived from the Greek mythology of Narcissus. Narcissus was a handsome Greek youth who rejected the desperate advances of the nymph Echo. As punishment, he was doomed to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. Unable to consummate his love, Narcissus pined away and changed into the flower that bears his name, the narcissus. The difference to be derived here can be depicted in the elaboration of the word Metrosexual

Vampires and the Lost Value of Originality

‘A man can never be his own god if he has already created one’ mere mortal humans have choose the fallacy of imitation backed by the trendy ideology of better species or stardom in which there unknowingly practice a kind of religious rite called Idolatry. Today’s world pattern has made many to brand their original nature as “incapable fakes’’ hereby exalting Hollywood stars, soccer, etc as models or the “capable originals’’ of human existence. However, this self fashioned ‘less fortunate’ often find themselves wrestling with this very down to earth inferiority complex trying to be something that there have themselves fashioned to already exist in a godly form. Certainly to be at a position already occupied by somebody can be as frustrating as chasing the wind.

Have you ever wondered why it is that you enjoy just watching a particular ‘icon, supermodel, star’ Or why an audience might like watching and experiencing movies, sporting events, music, political figures or any kind of entertainment if not societal figures?. Ask this question, what exactly does the performer( rock star etc) on one hand and the audience get out of the situation. A lady stares down the streets at a certain lady X walking she can’t understand the fact that everyman is looking at lady X and but no one is even noticing her. She gets back home and spends sleepless nights figuring out hot to copy all the aspect of walk, outfit and looks she could remember lady X possessed with the simple goal of winning the admiration of men. Are you sure you won’t miss the key factor about her attraction?

At times we might wonder if existence has limited us to the fact that those who create and perform ‘wonder’ do so because of some less rational, more self-based. Do there have all motives gearing us to but idolized them as demi-gods, offering to us just a copyright pleasure derived from the act of apparently defying the day-to-day laws of creation by our lazy manner of not seeking to accomplish a certain task or obligation levied on us by destiny in it’s original form but…
